Are we that close to sending a man to Mars? Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX is predicting that humans who will be leaving Earth on 2024 will arrive at Mars at 2025. The altitude record for a human spaceflight in (LEO) Lower Earth Orbit (less than 1,200 miles) was Gemini 11 with an apogee of 1,374.1 kilometers (853.8 mi). All manned space stations to date, as well as the majority of satellites, have been in LEO. From the 24 who traveled beyond the Earth orbit, 12 people walked on the moon.
