Background
Historically speaking, when one superpower declines and new one emerges looking to take over the leadership, it leads to a war. With China rising technologically, financially, and with expanding influences, this is the last moment for the US to try and stop the rise of the rival. He who controls the trade roads wins, and from that perspective the conflict on South China Sea in inevitable. Whether it will be local or spill worldwide is to be seen.

The former MI6 has similar thoughts. I hope your prediction doesn't come true but it seems that no one tried to calm the winds of war. Here is a report from RT America: https://youtu.be/7RG4OU7IdS8

I agree with the analysis - if a war starts it will be in the South China Sea. China is grabbing land everywhere it can in international waters (small islands, bringing in sand and building naval bases).
But I don't think a hot war is inevitable. There's too much at stake economically. China would prefer to bully them until pull back...  that's their strategy.
Just last month the USS Mustin entered Chinese sovereign waters in Xisha island. That's a Navy guided missile warships, and the Chinese chased it off.
They are catching up fast..  part of their larger plan to dominate Asia pacific, and Israel has been quietly helping the Chinese too. It's a very interesting relationship.
